HETHERINGTON SUPPORTS SMART GROWTH BUT RAISES CONCERNS ABOUT REQUIRING GREEN CLEANING PRODUCTS IN SCHOOL

While supporting HB-6467, a bill advancing smart growth principles for improved long-term planning and development, State Representative John W. Hetherington (R-125) has voiced strong concern about HB-6496, which mandates that schools use only cleaning products identified as green.

“Local school boards are free to do this now, so I don’t know why we need a mandate,” Hetherington said, ” I trust the local school districts to know what is good for our children.”

“Moreover, one can see the possibility of damage suits against school boards and members if there is inadvertent non-compliance and someone claims an illness resulted. This possibility was raised in the floor debate and could not be ruled-out,” concluded Hetherington.
